Breast augmentation is an outpatient surgical procedure that enhances the size and shape of the breasts. Dr. Vinyard offers 3-D photo simulations to help visualize the look you would like to achieve. The most common technique is to use either a saline or silicone gel breast implants to provide the contour and volume enhancement. You will learn the most up to date information so you can make an informed decision. When it comes to breast augmentation, Dr. Vinyard invests a considerable amount of time in the preoperative consultation to determine the look that you are trying to achieve. He utilizes the most advanced technology to determine your desires. With the use of our state-of-the-art 3-demensional imaging system (the Vectra X3) and high-definition monitors in your private consultation room, Dr. Vinyard willdemonstrate what you can reasonably expect your breasts to appear like after surgery. You will also be able to compare your current breast size with various other breast sizes. No longer do you have to stuff your bra with implants or try and find a picture of the way you would like your breasts to look. With this technology, you will leave the consultation with a good idea of what your body will look like after your procedure. Dr. Vinyard feels this technology is invaluable to achieve his patient’s desired outcomes. The type of implant that you chose is a personal decision. Dr. Vinyard will spend time discussing the differences between the various breast implants. There are a lot of myths and false information about breast implants. Dr. Vinyard will explain the science and facts about breast implants so that you can make an informed decision. Some patients will be able to achieve their desired look and feel with either type of implant, while others may achieve a better outcome by using one type versus another. Ultimately, it is your decision which is best for you. Our office keeps samples of both saline and silicone implants for you to feel while you are here. Dr. Vinyard respects the fact that throughout your lifespan, both your breasts and your desires for their appearance continue to change. What you may look like and what you desire to look like in your twenties might be different than when you are in your 40s. Dr. Vinyard listens to your thoughts on what you would like to achieve and then makes his recommendations. One of the common misconceptions about breast augmentation with breast implants is that it will correct ptosis (drooping) of the breast. In some cases in which a patient has only mild drooping of the breast, you can achieve somewhat of a lifting effect with the placement of the implant. However, in cases with severe ptosis, a combination procedure incorporating the placement of a breast implant in combination with a breast lift will be the best approach for you. This is also true for patients with asymmetry of the breasts. In general, Dr. Vinyard does not feel it is the best approach to try to correct asymmetry using 2 different sized implants. In this type of a case, you may be a better candidate for a breast lift with breast implant placement allowing Dr. Vinyard more opportunity to manipulate and sculpt the breast tissue and possible remove asymmetric volumes to create better breast symmetry. Dr. Vinyard primarily utilizes the inframammary incision (in the fold beneath the breast) for breast augmentation. He feels that the visualization of the placement of the implants achieved by this approach, as well as, the decrease in damage to the breast tissue makes the inframammary approach superior to others. This also leaves a very small scar that is imperceptible in bathing suits and bras and is only seen from underneath whether you chose saline or silicone implants. Dr. Vinyard was also involved in the testing of the new device called the Keller Funnel. This device allows Dr. Vinyard to be able to insert a silicone gel breast implant into a small (usually only 3.5cm) incision. Without this device the incisions required for insertion of silicone gel implants have been historically large (usually greater than 5 cm).Photo Gallery
