Dr. Vinyard wants to help his patients restore their self-image after losing one or both breasts from cancer or other illness. Breast reconstruction is a surgical procedure that recreates the breast. Dr. Vinyard’s advanced fellowship training has allowed him to bring Marshall County a variety of choices for Breast Reconstruction. With personalized treatment options available, you will feel empowered as you make an informed decision to help reestablish your sense of self. Breast reconstruction has developed over the years and depending upon your health, your surgical history, your breast cancer treatment and your desires, Dr. Vinyard will design a breast reconstruction plan that is right for you. Breast reconstruction is generally a staged process with reconstruction being completed in approximately 1 year. It is ideal to meet with your plastic surgeon prior to making a final decision regarding the treatment for your breast cancer. Dr. Vinyard can explain your reconstruction options and discuss the anticipated results of your reconstruction based on the specific breast cancer treatment you decide on. There are multiple approaches to breast reconstruction. These approaches can be categorized as either Autologous Breast Reconstruction or Alloplastic Breast Reconstruction. Autologous Breast Reconstruction uses your own skin, fat and muscle from another area of your body (typically from the back or tummy region) to create a breast mound. Alloplastic Breast Reconstruction uses an expandable breast implant called a tissue expander to allow your body to regain the skin that was lost during the removal of the breast. The tissue expander will be filled in our office on a weekly basis until you are pleased with the new size of your breast. At that point, the tissue expander will be exchanged for a softer more natural appearing breast implant. After the completion of either the Autologous or Alloplastic Breast Reconstruction, you will have the option of having a nipple reconstruction. Dr. Vinyard will educate you regarding your options and help you navigate through to an informed decision and back on the road to feeling like yourself again!Photo Gallery
