If the breast reduction is considered cosmetic, then we accept a $100 consult fee. If the breast reduction is needed for medical reasons and is going to be pre-authorized by your insurance company, then you will be responsible for your Specialists' co-pay and we will file the bill for your visit with your insurance company on your behalf.
Dr. Vinyard values the time spent in consultation with each patient and the communication that occurs during your visit here. You can expect that he will spend quite a bit of time with you himself. Initially, you will be greeted with a smile by our receptionist who will offer you something to drink and provide you with the necessary paperwork to complete. You can now enter your own demographic information and medical health history at the convenience of your own home through our state-of-the-art SAFE Internet-based Patient Portal on our website.Then, you will be escorted upstairs to our new patient floor and into a consultation room. Once there, you will be oriented about your visit with us and escorted to the professional photography suite. There, you will have 2-D photos taken for documentation and surgical planning. Next, our nurse or patient care coordinator will take your detailed health history. Once she has conveyed this information to Dr. Vinyard, he will then begin your breast reduction consultation which will consist of an analysis and conversation about your breast size and shape, a physical exam, and commence with a detailed discussion of your options. Lastly, you will meet with the patient care coordinator who will explain your quote to you if this is a cosmetic breast reduction. If it is a breast reduction requiring a pre-authorization, then we will file the necessary paperwork for you and get in touch with you once we hear back from the insurance carrier.
Please allow for 1- 1 ½ hours for your breast reduction consultation with Dr. Vinyard. Consider this time to be dedicated to doing something for yourself and your health.
Your breast reduction can be performed in our state of the art surgical suite at our Cosmetic Surgery Center in Guntersville, Alabama if the procedure is performed for cosmetic purposes. If however, your breast reduction is being performed for medical reasons covered by your insurance policy, than your breast reduction will be performed at Marshall Medical Center North hospital near Arab, Alabama or Marshall Medical Center South hospital in Boaz, Alabama depending on your desires.
General anesthesia is generally required for breast reduction procedures.
A breast reduction takes an average of 3 ½ hours to complete. For larger breasts, it may take up to 5 hours to complete.
Commonly, patients will also require liposuction of the breast near the underarm to achieve a better contour to the overall appearance of the breast. Additional surgeries will be assessed individually during your consultation.
Yes. You will return to the comfort of your home after your breast reduction accompanied by a responsible adult. However, a hospital stay may be recommended by Dr. Vinyard depending on your medical health.

Most patients are ready to return to sedentary work in 1-2 weeks. You will need to continue to avoid repetitive motions and heavy lifting for 3 weeks after surgery as this can cause unwanted complications. You will be able to return to most of your activities 6 weeks following your breast reduction.
Bruising can be expected following a breast reduction and the majority of it resolves within 2 weeks of surgery.
The majority of swelling following a breast reduction will be gone in 6 weeks. However, at 3 months we take our 1st official "after" photos to compare with the photos taken prior to your breast reduction.
Three months following your breast reduction, you will be able to see your result from the surgical procedure. The type of approach that Dr. Vinyard uses helps to prolong your results, but takes a few months to develop the shape of the breast. At first, you will appear very full on the upper portion of the breast and over the course of 3 months, the breasts will take on the rounded appearance to the lower part of the breast. Your breasts will continue to develop over the course of 1 year and the scars will continue to improve over 18 months to 2 years.
Dr. Vinyard likes to keep a close watch on his patients' progress. You will see Dr. Vinyard the next day after your breast reduction in the office, then at 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year.
Should your breast reduction be given a pre-authorization by your insurance company, then you will be responsible for your specialists' copays and coinsurance. (Note: a pre-authorization does not guarantee payment by the insurance company) If your breast reduction does not meet criteria for coverage by your insurance carrier then, you will be financially responsible for the procedure. We will provide you a written quote regarding the costs involved with a cosmetic breast reduction.
If your breast reduction is covered by your insurance company, we will file your procedure with the carrier on your behalf. If your breast reduction is considered cosmetic, then the Dr. Vinyard's professional fee, facility fee, anesthesia fee, initial consultation, all pre and post-operative visits are included in the cost of your surgery.
If your breast reduction is covered by your insurance company, then you will be responsible for your copays and coinsurance. If your breast reduction is not pre-authorized by your insurance company, then you will be responsible for the cosmetic breast reduction in advance of your surgery. You will need to pay in full 2 weeks prior to your cosmetic breast reduction.
In certain cases insurance will cover a breast reduction if it meets certain criteria for coverage. A breast reduction will need to be pre-authorized by your insurance company. We will provide all necessary documentation for your insurance company to make a determination. (Note: a pre-authorization does not guarantee payment by the insurance company).
Yes. Our practice participates with CareCredit although we do not directly finance any procedures. You may also want to research options through your bank of choice. We also accept all major credit cards including VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.
