In situations in which your insurance company is involved, you will be required to pay your specialists' copay and we will file your visit with your insurance company on your behalf. However, in most cases the treatment of Gynecomastia is considered cosmetic and therefore not covered by insurance. In this case, you will be responsible for a $100 consultation fee which will apply to the cost of your procedure.
Dr. Vinyard values the time spent in consultation with each patient and the communication that occurs during your visit here. You can expect that he will spend quite a bit of time with you himself. Initially, you will be greeted with a smile by our receptionist who will offer you the beverage of your choice and provide you with the necessary paperwork to complete. You can now enter your own demographic information and medical health history at the convenience of your own home through our state-of-the-art SAFE Internet-based Patient Portal on our website.Then, you will be escorted upstairs to your consultation room. Next, our nurse or patient care coordinator will review your detailed health history. Once she has conveyed this information to Dr. Vinyard, he will then begin the consultation which will consist of an analysis and conversation about your breast size and shape, a physical exam, and commence with a detailed discussion of your options. During the conversation with Dr. Vinyard, you will be able to express your desires for treatment of gynecomastia and then Dr. Vinyard will make recommendations for your surgical plan. Then you will go toour professional photography suite where Dr. Vinyard will take 2-D photos for documentation and surgical planning. Lastly, you will meet with the patient care coordinator who will explain your quote to you. This quote is designed based on the plan that you and Dr. Vinyard have decided upon together.
Your consultation for the treatment of gynecomastia will take 1- 1 ½ hours to complete. You may be required to attain additional labs after your consultation.
You may choose to have your surgery at either Marshall Medical Centers hospitals or our on-site state-of-the-art surgical suite in Guntersville, Alabama.
General anesthesia is required for the treatment of gynecomastia regardless of the approach Dr. Vinyard utilizes.
Depending upon the approach that Dr. Vinyard uses, the treatment of gynecomastia can take 1.5-2.5 hours.
Yes. It can be combined with other procedures such as liposuction of the lower abdomen or flanks or other procedures. You can discuss your other concerns with Dr. Vinyard during your consultation.

Patients usually return to sedentary work or school in 1 week after surgery. Strenuousactivities and heavy lifting should be avoided for 6 weeks.You will be required to wear a surgical garment that provides compression to the chest for 3-6 weeks. This garment will help reduce the swelling.
Bruising can remain for up to 2-3 weeks after surgery and is concealed by clothing and your compression garment.
The majority of the swelling will be gone in 6 weeks. We will take photos 3 months after your gynecomastia correction procedure so that you can compare them to the photos taken at your initial consultation.
Typically the swelling is gone by 3 months after your gynecomastia correction procedure and you will be able to see your final result.
Dr. Vinyard likes to keep a close watch over his patients. After your gynecomastia correction procedure, he will see you at 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year.
The cost of your procedure is determined by the approach that Dr. Vinyard uses to treat the gynecomastia. Therefore, we will provide a detailed written quote for you after your consultation with Dr. Vinyard.
The total cost of the treatment of the gynecomastia correction procedure includes Dr. Vinyard's professional fee, facility fee, anesthesia fee, and surgical garment. Dr. Vinyard's professional fee includes your initial consultation, pre-operative visit and all post-operative follow-up visits.
Since the majority of surgeries for the treatment of gynecomastia are considered cosmetic, the total cost of the procedure is due 2 weeks in advance and the first 50% is due 1 month prior to the procedure. In the few cases where insurance has pre-authorized your procedure, you will be responsible for the specialists' co-pay and coinsurance.
In some cases an insurance company will cover the cost of the treatment of gynecomastia. A pre-authorization should be completed by the insurance company to assess whether the surgery meets criteria. We will provide all necessary documentation to the insurance company.
