Wrinkles in the upper part of the face occur because there is very little fat between the skin and the muscles. The muscles are more tightly attached to the skin and create a wrinkle when the muscle moves. Botox relaxes the muscles underneath the skin and therefore they cannot pull on the skin to create a wrinkle. This causes a smoothed appearance to Botox.
Botox Cosmetic injections are FDA approved for the wrinkles between the eyebrows (glabella region). However, Botox Cosmetic is commonly injected into other areas in the upper part of the face. These areas include the crow's feet, glabella (area in between the eyebrows), and the horizontal lined across the forehead.
No. Dr. Vinyard can achieve the more refreshed and relaxed appearance to your wrinkles without making you appear "frozen". His approach to treating with Botox is to try and create a more natural and smooth appearance. This appearance is achieved by preventing the muscles of the forehead, glabella and/or crow's feet regions from moving. You will still be able to create expressions with the use of the muscle surrounding the eye.
Botox treatments usually last for 3-4 months on average. Muscle function returns at this point and you will start to notice your "active" wrinkles returning.
To maximize your results for facial rejuvenation utilizing a non-surgical approach, you may also benefit from injection of a filler/ Juvederm XC. This is most commonly used to address wrinkles that occur in the the lower part of the face such as the nasolabial folds (wrinkles from the nose to the corner of the mouth), labiomental folds (wrinkles from the corners of the mouth to the chin), and around the mouth. The "Liquid Facelift" is a non-surgical way of achieving a modest amount of facial rejuvenation with the use of both Botox Cosmetic and Injectable Fillers. Another factor to remember is the overall health and appearance of the skin itself. At the Vinyard Institute of Plastic Surgery, we carry only physician dispensed skin care lines that require a prescription.
