The natural aging process is taking a toll on every one of us, especially on women. Hormone fluctuations, wrinkles, and fat pockets influence our looks and self-confidence. Although patients first notice visible changes, such as facial wrinkles or saggy skin tissues, other body parts too, especially the female genitalia, go through dramatic changes.

As women experience the challenges of pregnancy and childbirth, their bodies too undergo dramatic changes, such as the loosening of the pelvic floor muscles around the genitalia. Although a natural and beautiful process, childbirth weakens both internal and external tissues, ligaments, and fascia within the birth canal, leading to the separation of internal muscle tissues and sexual dysfunction.

Together with pregnancy and childbirth, age is the third major factor of genitalia issues. The natural response to the aging process is a decrease in estrogen production. Estrogen is one of the hormones responsible for a broad range of bodily functions: sexual development, breast changes, bone and cholesterol metabolism, body weight, glucose metabolism, and insulin sensitivity. Additionally, estrogen regulates food intake and controls the growth of the uterine lining during the menstrual cycle.

The gradual estrogen decrease generates several physical changes within the vulva, vagina, and lower urinary tract, leading to the following side-effects:

  • Vaginal dryness, irritation
  • Burning
  • An increase in urinary tract infections (UTI)
  • Painful sexual intercourse due to a lack of vaginal lubrication
  • Irregular or absent periods
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Urinary incontinence

These side-effects manifest themselves chronically, making them susceptible to gradual worsening. While local estrogen treatment represents a temporary solution for some patients, these side-effects could gradually worsen, leading to depression, concentration problems, and constant fatigue.

What solutions can a plastic surgeon recommend?

Recently, more patients turned their attention towards medical procedures designed to reconstruct female genitalia, especially after childbirth. One of the leading forms of treatment available on the market is vaginal rejuvenation, which reconstructs the female genitalia by tightening the female pelvic floor muscles surrounding the vagina. Moreover, vaginal rejuvenation removes extra skin tissue internally and externally for an aesthetically beautified vagina.

What if a patient doesn’t want to undergo a surgical procedure?

Many of our female patients are unable to take a break from their busy schedules to improve their genital area. For such patients, plastic surgery has come up with a minimally-invasive procedure that provides impressive results without the need for recovery: Radiofrequency Vaginal Rejuvenation®.

What is radiofrequency vaginal rejuvenation?

Radiofrequency vaginal rejuvenation is a minimally-invasive procedure that uses superior radiofrequency (RF) bipolar energy. The provider gently inserts a device in the patient’s vagina. Once inserted, the device generates heat on deeper tissue to activate fibroblasts. Through this procedure, collagen production and blood flow to the area increase, making vaginal walls plumper and better lubricated, respectively. With the help of radiofrequency vaginal rejuvenation, women can achieve a tightened vaginal area and no longer experience painful sexual intercourse!

Is radiofrequency vaginal rejuvenation safe?

Here at the Vinyard Institute of Plastic Surgery, radiofrequency vaginal rejuvenation is one of our top procedures, recommended by hundreds of women of all ages who have reported long-lasting, successful results. Make sure you choose an experienced, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon who knows how to minimize the risks associated with the procedure.

Am I a good candidate for radiofrequency vaginal rejuvenation?

While this treatment can apply to women of all ages, some patients are more suited, such as:

  • Women whose vaginal structure has been altered as a result of childbirth.
  • Women who experience pain or reduced sensation during sexual intercourse.
  • Women who experience pain during specific activities, such as riding a bike or horseback riding.

Is there a recovery time associated with this procedure?

Radiofrequency vaginal rejuvenation is both a minimally-invasive and an outpatient procedure, which means that women can return to their daily routine when they leave the clinic.

When can I have sexual intercourse after my radiofrequency vaginal rejuvenation treatment?

While we do recommend that our patients take a few days off to recover, there are cases when women return to their regular sex lives immediately after the procedure with no complications. Immediately after the treatment, women can experience vaginal sensitivity during intercourse, which disappears within a few days.

When will I notice any results?

Since the vaginal regeneration process is triggered by each treatment, patients will gradually notice improvements. After the first treatment, the vaginal mucosa becomes more nourished and hydrated, and the epithelium becomes thicker, more toned, and elastic. The correct vaginal pH is re-adjusted, which restores the vagina’s natural protective barrier and reduces the risk of infection.

#1  Reduced Stress Urinary Incontinence.

After childbirth, when the pelvic floor muscles are weakened, Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) can cause unintentional urinary leakage when laughing, coughing, and sneezing. Radiofrequency vaginal rejuvenation helps treat and prevent SUI as well as other urinary conditions.

#2  Enhanced aesthetic aspect.

Radiofrequency vaginal rejuvenation is the right solution for women who are not pleased with the aesthetic aspect of their genitalia, as the procedure can restore contour and enhance muscle tone within the genitalia.

#3  Greater confidence and self-esteem.

Changes in female genitalia can become an emotional burden for some women, which leads to loss of self-confidence and a decrease in the general quality of life.

The results of radiofrequency vaginal rejuvenation impact a woman emotionally, rather than the results being limited to the vaginal area. Feeling young intimately and emotionally is essential for a woman’s self-esteem, and, with this vaginal treatment, women can once again enjoy their femininity and confidence!
